From Clean to Muddy

Paul B. of London, England, sent this photo of his Lab, Louis, which he points out is pronounced "Lewis" not "Louie."
Of Louis, Paul writes:
"He came to us via a rescue centre in london - as a seemingly well-looked-after 8-month-old pup. This is him soon after we got him to our home in the country after enjoying the local muddy ponds. His other hobbies are chasing rabbits, escaping for long unoffical walks and of course food (ours, not his)."
A Lab loving water and mud? And chasing rabbits? And, most of all, stealing people food? Why does this sound oddly familiar?

Hi John!I'm brazilian and I just read your book.I don't have words to describe it.It's amazing, adorable, funny and moving!I have 8 dogs e and I'm studying to be a veterinary. That`s why,you can imagine,I'm so familiarized with the story.By the way,you are a great writer, and I really expect you wrote more and more books. That probably would be a present for the world!Congratulations!! and I'm sorry the mistakes,I can't speak english!
I don't read well but last October I purchased Marley and Me knowing by the picture cover it would be really good. I did not get past the first few pages like I said I am horrible at reading. For Christmas I received the CD audio version of M&M and I am so grateful!!! Listening to you created such incredible pictures as if I were there with you, your family, and Marley. I laughed and cried out loud! Thank you for making an audio version I am so glad I did not miss out on your wonderful story telling.
Write this commentary with the aid of a translator on line, since I am bad in English. I am finishing the book, the part when they decide to create hens and I believe that the end will go to make to cry me. Completely I am gotten passionate by the Marley, and I am here for saying this: the book is following has me one 4 days since that I bought it, and already laughs, participated and also already I was hours looking at Marley in the layer. Very obliged mine for you to decide to share your pretty history with us. Of truth. I also leave my kiss and my excuses for the preposterous English.
Hi, John!
I believe I am the thrid Brazillian to send a comment on this day.... I bought your book in a supermarket two days ago and I couldn´t stop reading it. And it is impossible not to fall in love with Marley and be moved by the way his presence and his love have affected your family.
I also have my "Marley", her name is Lazy, she is a spirited Cocker Spaniel..by her name you can tell that her favourite activity is to sleep...hehe...but she is very nice and loving and since the moment I read the last page of your book, I couldn´t stop thinking about the day she will be gone...
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that you have done a great job and I am sure that Marley, wherever he is, is really proud of you and that you´ve managed to reach a lot of people around the globe by telling the story of your sweet dog..

Hi; Your book helped me to remember more about my yellow lab, Barney. He passed away 7 years ago. Your stories about Marley reminded me of Barney a lot. He enjoyed stealing pizza off the countertop, sleeping on the couch whenever he's not allowed, and attempting to catch crabs in the water. Marley's full name sounded brilliant. Barney's full name was Sir Barnaby of York.

Hi John I love that you wrote the book Marley and Me. I have 2 dogs named Honey and Jack and we take them out into the woods for ATV rides. Well they run beside us. Any way when ever we get back home there cover with dirt from head to tail! Jack and Honey are a brindle and white and when were done there brown and brindle! There both full boxer. They love to play the game who ever grabs the others lag wins. A funny game to watch them play. Iam a 12 year girl who loves soccer, all kinds of sports, and animals. I want to be a vet big time. I saw the book Marley and Me at our schools book fair and said I GOT TO HAVE IT and thats what i did.

John, as I write this my one-year-old yellow lab is asleep and snoring at my feet. I finished your book last night and wanted to tell you what a joy it was to read. With every page I saw a little bit of my dog Huff. Well, I guess he might be a bit quieter and calmer than Marley, but he definately lets his lab shine through and often at the most inapropriate moments!
I would consider myself not all that emotional, but your book brought so many smiles and tears. The last chapters of his death and burial were warm and thoughtful but very hard to get through. Finding the hair in your shoe, after Marley had died, hit me the hardest. My shoes are always full of hair and I know they will be for years to come.
My Huff is only a year old but in some ways I miss him already. He is my bud and companion and I can't imagine life without him.
Thank you for allowing me to remember to cherish him every day that he is with me. And, if at times, he is not perfect I will remember neither am I and I will accept the fact that he is what he is.
I have this little saying on my wall, with a picture of my dog and I will look at it more now, after reading your book, and remember it's words:
"He is your friend, your partner,
your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will
be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat
of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of
such devotion."
Hi John! I want to thank you for writing such an amazing book. I laughed when I read your humerous descriptions of Marley's crazy actions. They reminded me of my dog Booker, a Ridgeback/Lab mix, who can act crazy at times.(Well, maybe all of the time.) The last chapters also made me remember the good memories I had with my dog, Jake who died in 3 years ago.I think you are a very talented writer and you truly made a lot people happy by writing this book.
