Come chat with me

My newspaper, The Philadlephia Inquirer, lately has been sponsoring online live Web chats. The chat sessions bring readers together with staff writers and columnists to discuss whatever is on everyone's minds. On Thursday at 11 a.m., it's my turn. For an hour, I'll be holding court at www.philly.com in a live chat, talking about Marley & Me, dogs, writing, columnizing, newspapers, publishing...whatever. We'll go wherever the discussion leads us.

You know I'll feel pretty darn dumb, sitting there alone if no one shows up. Or even worse, just me and one lonely crank who wants to know why his paper arrives wet in the morning. So if you have some free time, drop in and keep me company. I've done these things before and they're actually a lot of fun.

So remember: Thursday, Dec. 15, 11 a.m. at www.philly.com. You'll see the link for the Live Chat. Hope to see you there. And for those who can't make it, philly.com archives these discussions so anyone can go in and read the transcripts after the fact.

I HAVE JUST FINISHED YOUR BOOK AND LOVED IT. LOOKING AT THE PHOTOS HERE BRINGS ME TO TEARS. IT'S HARD FOR SOME PEOPLE TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THE BOND BETWEEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PETS. TO ME IT IS THE MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I HAVE 3 DOGS INCLUDING A CHOCOLATE LAB AND WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT THEM. YOU CONVEYED THIS RELATIONSHIP WITH ITS JOY AND SADNESS SO POETICALLY. I WISH YOU HAD ANOTHER BOOK. KEEP ON WRITING. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON.

THANKS,

DEAR MR GROGAN,
I WOULDLIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU WROTE. I HAVEN'T READ A BOOK AS GOOD AS "MARLEY AND ME" IN A LONG TIME. I NEVER LAUGH AS LOUD ALL BY MYSELF SITTING IN A COFFEE SHOP, AND NEVER CRIED AS MUCH SITTING ON MY BED WITH A TISSUE BOX ON MY LAPS WHILE READING A BOOK. I BOUGHT YOUR BOOK FOR MY BOYFRIEND AND I GOT TO READ IT FIRST (LUCKY ME HA HA HA). HE IS THINKING ABOUT GETTING A DOG AND I WARNED HIM ABOUT THIS BOOK, I TOLD HIM : AFTER READING THIS BOOK, YOU WILL DEFINITELY WANT A DOG ! MARLEY WAS TRULY A GREAT DOG LIVING WITH A VERY LOVING FAMILY. THIS BOOK IS A VERY NICE GIFT FOR EVERY ANIMAL LOVERS, ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU.

John, I'm not sure if you rememeber me or not, but your son P. and my son played BRYB together about, gheesh, I'll bet 8 years ago. In any event, you and your wife and me and my husband would frequently chat at the ballpark (primarily Lake Wyman)That is back when you were writing for the Sun Sentinel and I would often tease you about your references to the "Bocahontas" in our neck of the woods. Anyway... we, too had at that time and still do have our yellow lab, Marley and I remember way back then that we would share our stories of our beloved pets... Just wanted to tell you that I just bought your book and I just can't wait to read it, though I will most likely wait until that week right between Christmas and New Years whan I am home so I don't have interruptions. Best of luck with this publication - Happy Holidays - Our Best to you and Your Family!! Be Safe - Kathy Scott
